Inspiration

I present to you two awesome new online video parts.

Desiree's riding has impressed me ever since seeing her in Runway Films "La La Land" from 2007. Speaking of it, I really really miss those movies! I remember, the first all girls movie I ever saw was in 2005, Misschief Films' "..as if!" and I was so excited when I ordered the DVD online and watched it on my TV at home. I was 15, just started riding in the funparks and those girls became my greatest heroes. The season after that, RoShamBo came out, followed by Runway's "La La Land" and "See What I See". That was a special era, the "DVD ordering" era. After that, the online movies "STANCE" and of course, the Peep Show and the Lipstick girls came up. Snowboard movies have changed so much and it's such a pity that I can't even seem to find the trailer for "As if" anymore. I guess, I will have to go through my DVD collection and upload those movies to the world wide web because it's worth so much to see the progression in (female) snowboard films!

 Nostalgia!

Jess, on the other hand, I saw for the first time in the second Peep Show movie, I think. But I heard she's been around for years, riding halfpipe competition and other stuff. She's quite the allrounder which impresses me a lot. Check out her part from her own webseries "Barely".

Collecting bruises in Holland

There are good trips and there are not so good trips. And there are trips like the one we did last week: a crazy bunch of girls who are all on the same page, who want to have fun together, talk shit and laugh all day.
But first things first. It all started for me on monday night, when I took the train to Chur, where Joelle collected me and we drove to Serfaus where we could stay at Mary's hotel. Exhausted as we were, we had to check out the wellness area at 10pm and fell in love with the Tepidarium which basically is just a infrared breeder and made us feel like newborn chickens. Perfect start for a trip like this.
Isabella, Sarah, Bianca (photographer) and Neil (filmer) joined us and our little crew was complete. The next day we had to fit 7 people, 7 suitcases, 7 snowboards and a lot of other stuff in a VW bus which was quite the challenge but as we all used to be Tetris champions ages ago it all went well. So did our 12-hour-ride to Leusden, where Isabella's mom let us stay for 2 nights. Thank you!
The next day, we did some sightseeing, shopping and of course, snowboarding at Snowworld Zoetermeer. It was very sketchy at the beginning. We all (except for Isa of course) had to get used to the 5cm of artificial snow with the bare ice layer underneath. We collected some considerable bruises and felt 10 years older that night.
The next day went a lot better. Having gotten used to the fridge (-10°!) everyone  threw some heavy tricks on the perfectly shaped set up. Stay tuned for some photos and an edit! Anyway, that night, we drove to The Hague, where Rik (from Rock A Rail) let us stay at a church for free. Thank you! After going out and checking out Dutch fast food and of course the set up for the next day we went to bed very happy and very nervous!
Contest day started out pretty shitty as it was raining practically the whole day. Nevertheless, we managed to get motivated pretty fast and when the sun came out during practise everyone was hyped on riding this huge thing! All girls really went for it and I still can't believe I made 3rd place. I'm not going to say anything more than: We had a blast!! Check out the photos, articles and videos!
Big big props to Rachida, Dina Treland, Joelle Juchli, Mary Luggen, Sarah Jane Phillips, Isabella Groenestein, Veroniqi Hanssen!

Girls Camp, freestyle.ch, Rock the Rail

A couple of weeks ago I was coach at the "Girls Camp" in Zermatt, a camp initiated by Ursina Haller to show the kids that we girls can rock the park just as well as the guys! I loved it and am already looking forward to my next session with the girls. Snowboarding went really well, too, I think I have fully recovered now and can hit the kickers and pipe again!

Last weekend, the most famous freestyle event in Switzerland, namely freestyle.ch, took place and I was a proud part of the Rip Curl booth. We had one of the biggest crowd surrounding our little location and the kids were stoked about the caps and pens we gave them and let them be creative with. Feels so good to put a smile on a little kid's face!

In 2 weeks, I'm heading to The Hague for a big rail jam in the middle of the city. It's called the Protest Rock a Rail 2012 and I'm going there with my favourite jib buddies JJ, Mary, Isy and Gaia. We will leave a few days prior to the contest in order to also check out the Indoor parks in Holland.

Winter is coming, it's already getting cold! The Laax season is already supposed to start in 4 weeks. I'm getting excited!!

Does it get any sweeter than this

I passed all my exams and now I'm working on my master thesis, earning some money and most of all enjoying a beatiful summer in Switzerland. Last weekend I went snowboarding in Zermatt (Gravity Snowpark Zermatt). I'm officially addicted again and can't wait for next winter!!

By the way, while waiting for next winter, look at those trailers and get excited for the movies.

I'm still alive

I haven't posted in here for a while. My season ending was pretty unspectacular because the weather sucked a lot. Nevertheless, Laax presented one of the best and most creative Spring Session parks EVER. Big thanks to the shapers!
I haven't been snowboarding ever since, focusing on my Master studies and spending some quality time with my loved ones. Summer has arrived in Zurich, which means I'm taking my books to the "beach" and study my ass of, jumping into the lake from time to time. Life's tough!
As I have to finish my master thesis this summer, I'm not going to be travelling a lot. Instead, I'm hoping to get some sexy slush'n'rail time in Zermatt where there's gonna be one of the finest summer parks in Europe, yeah. Speaking of Europe, the football championsships are also getting a lot of my attention at the moment. Go Deutschland!

Soon, some trailers will drop and you will be kept updated about girls snowboarding last winter. Sadly, I wasn't part of it. I can't be too sad, though, because even though my season lasted only 6 weeks, I went to 3 events in 3 different coutries and made it to the podium 3 times. On top of that I met some amazing people! One of my best "seasons".

PBRJ European Champs 2012

I got 3rd at the Peanut Butter & Rail Jam EU Finals in Avoriaz. I'm really thrilled, especially since 4 other swiss people made the top 5: Stephi, JJ, Julien and Buzzi. We had an amazing time and enjoyed our stay to the fullest! The girls podium was pretty sick, JJ (1st) and Rachida (2nd) killed it with a looot of steeze!

JJ got first and likes her price

FREE beers, nachos and sandwiches with the finest French cheese at the après-ski in Avoriaz

PBRJ

Last weekend, we did a little roadtrip to Grasgehren in Germany (Thank you for the big car, Never Summer!). One of the many Peanut Butter and Rail Jam Qualifications was going on there and we tried to make the top 5 in order to qualify for the Euro Champs which are gonna be next week in Avoriaz!
I made the top spot, Stephie and Barbara made 2nd and 4th, so it was a very successful day for us Swizzys. The level of riding was pretty nice, big props to Anika, she killed it.
Thank you Volcom, you always know how to throw a good event!

I'm looking forward to the Champs now, it's going to be such a great session, with JJ and Gaia and many many chicks from all other countries also coming along!

First edit 2012

Yay, fun.

Jib Days Coverage

What a weekend! Perfect park, perfect conditions, perfect ambiente, perfect vibes!
I don't think I would've gotten back into snowboarding as quickly if it hadn't been for those two days. These girls were pushing me so hard and we had a great time together. On top of that, I won the Best Style award and some cash.
Check out the Cooler article and the vimeo edit:

SNOWBOARDING

This week the Burton European Open are happening in Laax. I was registered for halfpipe but still couldn't really ride so I didn't start. BUT I finally waxed my board again and hit the park with the girls from the Rip Curl party team!! It was so nice to see Diana, Urska and Marion again and to meet Norwegian rider Emilie. We had so much fun - day and night!

As I really feel a lot better I'm going to check out a jib event hosted by my friends Carmen and Gaia in Austria this weekend. It doesn't matter if I can ride or not, I already know it's going to be a BLAST!

By the way, this is my 50st post! Thanks for still reading :)

Skiing forever!

My doctor allowed me to go skiing, so I grabbed my mother's slalom skis and rocked the slopes today. My foot didn't hurt at all and it was the most fun day of my season!!

ISPO was fun. I'm still recovering from my foot injury and focusing on other stuff in my life.

MRI

I went to get an MRI done last week in order to see if there may be an indication for surgery on my ankle. I got good and bad news. Good news is that there's no surgery necessary at the moment and the cartilage is alright. The bad news is that not only my anterior ankle ligament is ruptured (which is very common, and heals pretty quickly) but also the syndesmosis between the fibula and tibia as well as the articular capsule are fully torn. As a result, my whole ankle joint is still inflamed and has considerable effusion. This means that the recovery takes much longer than I originally thought. However, open surgery on the ankle still has a worse outcome so it's better to leave the body alone and let it do the healing for now. I really can't tell how long it takes, I was surprised to see in the MRI that the healing is making only slow progress. I got a shot of cortison in my ankle joint to ease the pain and inflammation but it's only a symptomatic treatment, so I still shouldn't strain my ankle too much for at least another month.
Unbelievable that one can be injured for half a year from a bail like that:

Anyhow, there's also stuff to look forward to! My exam is over next week, after that I'll go to Munich for the ISPO and after that I'll finally do some of the stuff I've always postponed, like getting my driver's permit (watch out!) and stuff like that.

I'll see how it goes with my ankle but I promised myself I wouldn't go riding at all until I can go jogging for half an hour without any pain.

There's not much to write. I'm feeling stunned and sad. My condolences to the family.

Happy New Year

I'm a little bit late :)
Anyway, my foot is not getting better and it looks like I'm missing out on the best winter I've ever seen. I'm really bummed out about that! >:(
Luckily, I'm a full-time student so I can for once be a true student...
If anyone knows a good new hobby that doesn't involve my foot (no running, jumping or walking), please do let me know. So far, I've taken up the violin again, I've been spending a considerable amount of time on YouTube and Vimeo and also my cooking and babysitting skills are improving...
